Members of the Jones Lab attend ASLO 2026
Stuart Jones and Bennett McAfee presented at this year's ASLO conference in Montreal. Bennett gave a talk titled "LakeBeD-US and GLAMR: Two Data Harmonization Case Studies" and presented a poster titled "Consequences of Climate Reanalysis Model Use for Estimates of Lake Productivity: Insights from the Global Lake Metabolism Repository". Stuart presented a poster titled "Exploring the Building Blocks of Lake Metabolic Regimes" and gave a talk titled "Lake Metabolic Regimes: A New Global Synthesis of GPP and ER Patterns and Drivers"

New Members Joining Jones Lab in Summer 2026!
We are thrilled to welcome six new members to the Jones Lab this summer: graduate students Addison Yerks, Bridgette Gorg, Ruth Morara, and Joseph Greendyk as well as undergraduate interns Peyton Johnson and Gracie Willett. Welcome to AWRI!

Jones Lab Receives Autonomous Underwater Vehicle NSF Grant
Along with collaborators from Northwestern Michigan College and the University of Notre Dame, the Jones Lab led a successful one-million-dollar proposal to the National Science Foundation to support a training program in the smart-deployment of AUVs. This project is evidence of growing partnerships in Traverse City and the contributions that AWRI makes to the development of the water-based blue economy in the Great Lakes region.

Jones Lab Welcomes New Members in Summer 2025!
This summer, the Jones Lab at AWRI gained five new members. The lab welcomes Data Scientist Bennett McAfee, Research Scientist Daniel Gschwentner, Research Technician Emma Campbell, Graduate Student Max Larson, and Undergraduate Researcher Jailyn Jacobs! Welcome to AWRI!

Stuart Jones joins Annis Water Resources Institute as Executive Director
Starting in January 2025, Dr. Stuart Jones joins AWRI as the new Executive Director. He joins AWRI from the University of Notre Dame's Department of Biological Sciences, where he served as a professor and was previously the associate director of the University of Notre Dame Environmental Research Center. In addition to his new leadership and administrative duties at AWRI, Dr. Jones will be continuing his research in ecology, environmental biology, genetics, and genomics.
